Introducing 2019-20 Upper Deck Series 2

Upper Deck’s Series 2 hockey card set is back! Serving as a follow up to this season’s Series 1, 2019-20 Upper Deck Series 2 introduces 250 more veterans and rookies to round out the 2019-20 NHL season. Series 2 releases on February 26th, and there’s lots to look forward to, so let’s dive in!

 

Base Set

The Series 2 base set consists of 198 veteran players not featured in Series 1, plus two checklists. Base cards also come in several parallel versions, including UD Exclusives (/100), High Gloss (/10), and the hobby-exclusive Clear Cut (1:96 hobby packs). There are also ultra-rare Photo Variations; base cards that feature an alternate photo to the regular card (1:1000). 

 

Young Guns

The Young Guns set includes 49 new rookies and a new checklist card. Odds of finding one are 1:4 packs, and as with Series 1, your odds are the same in Retail and Hobby Boxes. Young Guns cards come in the same parallel variations as the base cards, and the odds of getting a hobby-exclusive Clear Cut Young Guns card are 1:288. The Young Guns cards are expected to be a big hit with Series 2, as the notable rookies to look out for include Kaapo Kakko (NYR), Cale Makar (COL), Filip Zadina (DET), and Nick Suzuki (MTL).

 

Inserts

New UD Canvas cards will be available in Series 2. There are 89 new Canvas cards featuring veteran players (1:8 Hobby Packs), as well as 29 Young Guns (1:48), 15 Team Canada (1:192), and 15 Retired Stars (1:192). Rare one-of-one printing plates can be found as well!

UD Portraits is also back and will feature new rookie cards. Odds of getting one are 1:6, and there are Gold Foil (/99) and Blue Foil (/25) parallels as well.

Another returning insert set in Series 2 is Day With the Cup, which will feature eight more St. Louis Blues players celebrating their Stanley Cup win last season (1:1000), along with rookie additions to the Shooting Stars set (1:360; Red parallels 1:1440).

A new insert subset is Flourescence, which focuses on this year’s crop of rookies. Gold card are numbered /150, Blue /50, Green /15, and Magenta /5. Rookie Breakouts are another new subset with 20 rookie cards (/100). 

 

Relic Cards

There are a few relic subsets included in Series 2, largely focused on this year’s rookies. Most common ones to find are Rookie Materials (1:55; patch version /25). There is also Rookie Photo Shoot Materials (1:576; patch /15) and Rookie Dual Materials, which features jersey swatches from two rookies (1:576; patch /10).

 

O-Pee-Chee

Finally, Series 2 also includes updates to the already-massive 2019-20 O-Pee-Chee set. It includes new Marquee Rookie cards (1:6) and updated veteran cards for players now on different teams (1:24). There are lots of coloured-border parallels available for each base card: Blue (Vets 1:120, Rookies 1:30), Gold (Vets 1:960, Rookies 1:240), and the rarest is Red, which can only be found in hobby boxes (Vets 1:1,230, Rookies 1:307). Of course, there are also retro parallels (Vets 1:60, Rookies 1:15) and their rare Black border parallels (/100). 

Included as a bonus in Series 2 Tins, you can find a pack of exclusive Glossy O-Pee-Chee parallels: Glossy (1:5), Bronze Glossy (1:12), and Gold Glossy (1:45).
