The countdown is on for the release of Pokémon Sword & Shield, which hits shelves on November 15th, 2019 and anticipation is steadily growing.
The video games are an important element of the hobby, as they are the driving force behind new content for both the hugely popular television series, and of course, the Pokémon Trading Card Game.
This dynamic trio collectively comes together in perfect harmony, to produce the top grossing franchise of all time and we couldn’t be happier to be a part of it.
Therefore, it brings us great joy to be able to bring to you the latest updates in regards to the Pokémon Sword & Shield video game, of which there are many to discuss, so let’s dig in!
Sword & Shield: The Newest Pokémon
The first update we are going to discuss today, is in regards to a number of new Pokémon coming to the Galar region, which is where the player will find themselves located in the new Pokémon Sword & Shield video game.
In addition to the new Pokémon we have already discussed in our previous article, we now have six brand new Pokémon spoiled, of which are the following;
- Alcremie
- Yamper
- Rolycoly
- Duraludon
- Obstagoon
- Morpeko
All of these new Pokémon are sure to excite and appeal to certain trainers, depending on your interest. One Pokémon that we are positive is going to be incredibly popular is Yamper, the electric type, puppy Pokémon.
According to the official Sword & Shield website, Yamper has an organ that generates electricity while he runs and also has a tendency to be drawn to things that move quickly, whether this be people, other Pokémon, or even cars!
Because of this, Yamper has a new ability that has never been seen before in any Pokémon game, “Ball Fetch”. The game developers explain;
“Yamper’s Ability, Ball Fetch, is a new Ability introduced in these titles, and it will come into play when you throw a Poké Ball at a wild Pokémon but fail to catch it. As long as Yamper isn’t holding an item, it will go fetch the first Poké Ball that failed to catch a Pokémon, regardless of what type of Poké Ball it is!”
Another interesting, new Pokémon is Morpeko, who is always incredibly hungry.
This Pokémon’s perpetual hunger is due to the fact that it constantly generates electricity in its cheek sacs, consuming an incredible amount of energy in the process.
However, this constant hunger is not just flavor text within the game, but is a very real part of this Pokémon’s gameplay, as it will change forms after experiencing a prolonged bout of hunger!
As per the Pokémon Sword & Shield website;
“When experiencing prolonged hunger, the balance of hormones within Morpeko’s body changes. This causes its fur color to change and triggers more aggressive and volatile behavior. The energy stored in its cheek sacs also changes from Electric type to Dark type.”
These are just two of the latest Pokémon to be spoiled by the game developers of Pokémon Sword & Shield, however, we highly suggest that you check out all of the others of well, which can be found here.
Sword & Shield: Brand New Regional Forms
With the release of Pokémon Sun & Moon, we saw some of the games favorite and most beloved Pokémon reinvented with brand new regional specific forms, the Alolan region Pokémon.
In Sword & Shield, this trend continues on and will include a number of its very own specific regional Pokémon, only found within Galar.
These new region specific forms are Weezing, Zigzagoon, Linoone and Obstagoon, however many more are likely yet to be spoiled!
The Galarian Weezing Pokémon is as the name suggests, a brand new form of the popular Team Rocket Pokémon, Weezing.
Poison gas is emitted from around its mouth and from its “top hat”, giving it a very “regal” appearance indeed.
This gas acts as the Galarian Weezings primary form of defense;
“The toxins accumulated within Weezing’s body form into concentrated poison gas clouds that leak out and drift around it. This gas is so potent that even a whiff is enough to stun and immobilize an opponent. It is Weezing’s best weapon during battles.”
The next new regional form is the Galarian Zigzagoon, which is based on Zigzagoon, a Pokémon that originally appeared sixteen years ago, way back in Pokémon Ruby & Sapphire.
The interesting part about the Galarian Zigzagoon, is the fact that along with this new regional form being spoiled, we have also learned its regional specific evolution forms, of which are Linoone and Obstagoon.
Obstagoon appears to be a very powerful Dark & Normal type Pokémon, falling into the “Blocking Pokémon” category.
Obstagoon is described as follows;
“Though Obstagoon is extremely combative, it seems that it doesn’t often launch the first attack. It will taunt an opponent, goading it into attacking. When it does, Obstagoon will cross its arms and meet the oncoming attack with its Obstruct move.”
This is sure to be a popular Pokémon amongst fans who love powerful, aggressive, mean looking Pokémon.
In Conclusion
The spoilers keep coming and the hype keeps building for Pokémon Sword & Shield, with each passing week bringing fans the latest news about the highly anticipated Galar region.
