Hold onto your hats boys and girls, major news is about to released by the developers of Pokémon Sword and Shield, much to the shock and surprise of everyone that has been eagerly awaiting the release of the next hit title in the Pokémon franchise.
The reason why this is such a surprise to everyone in the gaming world, is the fact that it was highly anticipated that the next major announcement in regards to Pokémon Sword and Shield would be made at E3 2019, which is scheduled to begin on June 11th 2019.
However, the creators of Pokémon apparently have other plans in mind.
On May 27th, Nintendo of America published the following tweet;
Tune in on June 5 at 6 a.m. PT for roughly 15 minutes of new information on #PokemonSwordShield for #NintendoSwitch in a livestreamed Pokémon Direct presentation.https://t.co/d1Xx3bDbhq pic.twitter.com/sNypwrc09d— Nintendo of America (@NintendoAmerica) May 27, 2019
As can be seen from the tweet above, on June 5th at 6 a.m. Pacific time / 9 a.m. Eastern time, there will be a 15 minute pre-recorded video released, detailing new information about one of the most anticipated games to released in 2019, Pokémon Sword and Shield.
You will be able to view this video via Nintendo Direct.
Fifteen minutes may not sound like a lot of time, but when discussing updates and new information about an upcoming game, this is an eternity and a lot of content can be disclosed within a 15 minute time-frame.
This is no short teaser, or trailer, of which Nintendo has released a number of version of in regards to Pokémon Sword in Shield, including one of our favorites which can be seen below:
On June 5th, it is incredibly likely that we are finally going to learn the official release date of Pokémon Sword and Shield, which many fans have been eager to find out since the game was first teased way back at E3 2017!
Currently, it is widely speculated that the game is going to release in early December 2019 for maximum hype, just before the Holidays.
This is something that Nintendo has typically done in the past for their most eagerly anticipated gaming titles, including Super Smash Bros Ultimate, which released last year on December 7th.
Regardless, we shall soon find out, as the video presentation is less than one week away!
So far, a few details have been discovered and learned about Pokémon Sword in Shield, including the region and the starter Pokémon.
The region is set in an area known as Galar, which as has been the case with previous Pokémon games, is inspired by a real world location.
This time, the Galar region has been inspired by the United Kingdom during the industrial revolution, with a few quirky twists thrown in, think Steampunk and you will get a good idea of what this will look like.
Also, vast regions such as open plains, mountains and other areas are going to be including in addition to sprawling cityscapes.
To connect these areas, the player will have access to a train network, taking them from point A to B.
The starter Pokémon that the player will be able to choose from are the following:
Grookey will be a grass type, Scorbunny is a fire type and Sobble is a water type Pokémon.
Finally, the last few details that we know about the game so far, is that unlike “Let’s Go Pikachu!, Let’s Go Eevee!”, Pokémon’s last game to be released on the Nintendo Switch, Pokémon Sword and Shield will be based on a more traditional Pokémon gameplay style, meaning that the old fighting system that has been traditionally used will be re-implemented.
Gyms, which took a break in Pokémon Sun & Moon will also be returning! Which is great news to many fans of the genre.
The most major news that could be released during the June 5th announcement is of course the release date, of which we have previously discussed.
However, so many more facts remain to be learned about this game, including the evolution chain of the three starter Pokémon Grookey, Scorbunny and Sobble.
Who will they evolve into, what will their evolved forms look like?
What unique mechanics will this region implement, and what new Pokémon are set to be released in this game, adding their names to players Pokédex?
Also, during this presentation, players are very excited to possibly hear about Pokémon Sword and Shields legendary Pokémon. Who will they be, how powerful will they be?
Regardless of what new details we learn on June 5th, we, along with thousands upon thousands of other fans of the franchise are eagerly awaiting the presentation and can’t wait to discover what is coming to Pokémon Sword and Shield!
Set your alarm clocks and get ready, we are expecting a jam packed 15 minutes, that is going to be a lot to digest.
Fortunately, the wait is not long and in less than a week the questions presented here may possibly be answered!
Either way, the graphics, the gameplay and the story of Pokémon Sword and Shield simply look amazing and we can’t wait to have this game available to play on the Nintendo Switch and for the new Pokémon from the Galar region to make their way into the Pokémon Trading Card Game!
What are you hoping to learn about during the June 5th presentation? Let us know, as always, we’d love to hear!
