New Information on Pokémon Sun and Moon Theme Decks
Good news! You won’t have to wait much longer to use the new Pokémon from Sun and Moon in the Pokémon trading card game! Here’s what we know so far:
There will be three theme decks each featuring one of the Alolan starters and they’ll be released on the 20th of January.
Forest Shadow Theme Deck
Features the Pokémon Rowlet (and it’s assumed it’ll also feature its evolutions). It may be a Grass/Ghost type deck, or just a Grass deck. We’ll have to wait and see.
Roaring Heat Theme Deck
Features the Pokémon Litten (and it’s assumed it’ll also feature its evolutions). It may be a Fire/Dark type deck or just a Fire deck. We’ll have to wait and see.
Bright Tide Theme Deck
Features the Pokémon Popplio (and it’s assumed it’ll also feature its evolutions). It may be a Fairy/Water type deck or just a Water deck. We’ll have to wait and see.
Will these decks feature GX cards?
At the time there’s no information on whether these decks will include GX cards. Knowledge of prior theme decks would suggest that they would not include them, but anything is possible! For those of you unfamiliar, GX cards are the new mechanic being introduced to the TCG for sun and moon and they are basically the Z moves from the game.
Here’s What Players Need to Know about Pokémon-GX:
- A player can use only one GX attack per game. (That’s one total, not one per Pokémon-GX!)
- Each Pokémon-GX has a maximum of two attacks in addition to its GX attack.
- Pokémon-GX have strong attacks and high HP, so they can overwhelm the opponent’s Pokémon without needing to rely on the GX attack.
- All of this power comes at a price. When your Pokémon-GX is Knocked Out, your opponent takes two Prize cards. Think carefully about how and when to use your Pokémon-GX in battle.
We’ll update this post as we gather more information on the new Sun and Moon Pokémon trading cards.
